Susan Miller

Susan has served as General Director of Intermountain Opera Bozeman since January of 2022. A graduate of Loyola University Chicago, Miller first began her career as a professional actor (AEA) in Chicago, IL.  After moving to Bozeman, Susan served as the Director of Visitor and Volunteer services at the Museum of the Rockies between 2007-2011 and as the Director of Education, then Director of  Marketing and Outreach at Montana Shakespeare in the Parks between 2011-21. She was one of the co-creators of the Montana Shakes! elementary outreach program and helped expand that tour from a three-week pilot program in 2008 to the twelve-week tour it is today.  

Acting highlights include playing Celeste #1/Betty in Sunday in the Park with George and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, both at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, both directed by Gary Griffin; Mother in Ragtime at Light Opera Works directed by Lara Teeter;  The Ballad of Little Jo at Steppenwolf Theatre (US/performed opposite Judy Kuhn); and Gypsy Rose Lee in Gypsy at Chicago’s old Bailiwick Theatre opposite Alexandra Billings as Mama Rose. She toured with Montana Shakespeare in the Parks for three summers and one fall. Favorite roles include Viola in Twelfth Night and Silvia in The Two Gentlemen of Verona both directed by Joel Jahnke. Susan won The Las Vegas Review Journal’s Best Leading Actress in a Musical award for her performance of The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods at Signature Theatre in 2006. She continues to perform in Bozeman. Recent appearances include Penny at The Ellen Theatre in You Can’t Take It With You, and the lead singer in the funk band Swamp Dawg.

Miller currently serves on Montana Arts Council’s Cultural & Aesthetic Trust committee and is a board member of The Shane Lalani Center for the Arts. She has presented at the Museum Association of Montana’s annual conference on Volunteer Management and the Shakespeare Theatre Association’s conference on theatrical education. She lives in Bozeman with her husband, three kids, and one goofy dog.
